An Excellent Wife

An Excellent Wife

I long to be an excellent wife. A wife who honours and loves her husband in the most beautiful, selfless way. Though perfection could never be attained, I believe that the person God brings into your life is the perfect choice for you. Despite their weaknesses and the obstacles that need to be overcome, I find that there is beauty within embracing gentle, and selfless love for the spouse that your heart adores.

To be honest, I don’t know what it generally means to be an excellent wife. Because the definition of an excellent wife may differ according to various people’s desires, experiences and expectations. Although for me, I hope for my husband to experience deep serenity being with me, knowing that he can trust me and be himself within my presence. There will be no need to perform or try everything and anything he can to win my love, for my love will already be his. Through which, he can rest in joyful peace, knowing that I’ll be absolutely ravished by his heart, and not merely what he does for me.

I would also like to think the same for me too. That regardless of how I please him or serve him, above all, he will adore me for my heart. I understand that there are love languages by Gary Chapman. In his books, he talks about how different individuals have different preferences when it comes to the expression of love. Their favoured way of receiving love can be different to their spouse’s preference of receiving love. It could be acts of service, or receiving a gift, physical touch, words of affirmation or spending quality time. When I am a wife, I’ve decided that it’s important for me to learn early on what my husband’s love language is. Because as much as I may try to be an excellent wife spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically, sexually and domestically… I’m not a mindreader. And as many people say, relationships take work. I’m a firm believer that love alone is not enough to sustain a marriage. Through which, as I remain wholeheartedly devoted to be the best wife I can be, I desire to look out for my husband’s interests and not merely my own. Though I know I’ll never ever be perfect, I’d really love to show my husband how absolutely loved and cherished he is by me. And I’m praying and hopeful, that God will also place the same desires within him too.

Love, Devona Fayana
