The Desire To Be a Homemaker

The Desire To Be a Homemaker

I know that this may not be common to hear, but as a single woman, I desire to be a homemaker. And my heart goes out to other single women who are praying for the blessed opportunity of becoming a homemaker, wife and mother. Throughout the last few years, I believe that God has softened my heart to wanting to be a homemaker. For there was once a time in my life where I used to desire being that ‘strong, hard and independent career woman‘, who could live her life happily alone, in abundance with worldly success. But as I grew closer toward the Lord throughout my christian walk, everything changed. And whilst I know that many women are called to remain single, I don’t believe we are supposed to be hardened by obsessing over worldly pursuits with a competitive spirit.

The eyes of my soul became opened to see the beautiful, and glorious significance a homemaker wife and mother. However, it can be difficult sometimes for me in this current season. Because as a single christian woman, being a homemaker isn’t possible for me right now at this present moment in time. I wanted to create this post in order to encourage any other single christian woman who desires to be a homemaker, that God sees your heart and your desires. And He is exceedingly faithful to bring to fruition, what He has planted within your heart.

Your desires are indeed godly and truly precious. And unfortunately, the world has a way of making us feel as though the homemaker’s call is not important, impractical and unambitious. But the bible actually does encourage wives to be homemakers.

“that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,  to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.” – Titus 2:4-5

As time goes by throughout my waiting season, my heart grows deeper in awe of the calling of a homemaker. The homemaker’s responsibility is not limited to merely cooking and cleaning. I believe that being a homemaker is about creating a house into a beautiful home of serenity for your family. A place of rest and refuge. A haven, where homemaker’s are blessed with the opportunity to use their creativity to nourish and replenish those who they welcome into their home. I truly believe that homemaking is a work of art. A labour of love and light that shines beautifully with Christ’s glory.

If you carry the precious, and treasured desire of becoming a homemaker, I want to encourage you to continue holding this cherished longing within your heart, and do not let go. I know that some days may feel super discouraging during the waiting season. Sometimes you may even feel confused as to why you have a desire that is just not possible for you as long as you remain single. But God has His reasons. He has a beautiful plan for you, and soon you will know why it had to work out the way it did. The desire to be a homemaker is potent within your heart for a special reason. Keep on believing, continue growing closer to your Heavenly Father and seek His kingdom first, and in His flawless timing, He will make a way for you, wonderfully and abundantly in alignment with His will for you.
