Surrendering Your Love Life To God
Deep within the hearts of many women and young ladies, dwells the passionate desire for true love. There are a number of ladies who marry young, and then there are others may have to go through a longer period of waiting. Surrendering your love life to God isn’t easy for every woman. For there are times when hope deferred causes the heart to grow sick, weary of faith, and too troubled to trust in Him and believe. However, all things are possible with God. And if you are willing, His beautiful Spirit will help you to surrender, and take you through a journey of trust as He leads you forward.
As I wait patiently upon the Lord in my single season, there are four scriptures that have been powerfully magnified within my heart. In this post I will share with you the beautiful scriptures and what I have learnt from them. It is my hope that this post will help you to embark on the precious journey of surrendering your love life to God.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4
Those treasured, innermost desires that you cherish within your heart are completely known by God. He comprehends why you desire them, and He comprehends what is best for you and when. I have found that in seasons of waiting, our souls are awakened to the reality of our need to depend on God. Throughout the time of waiting, there may be times where you experience anguish, hopelessness and pain within your heart. But in those moments it is best for you to draw closer to your Heavenly Father, and not step away from Him. Despite the disappointment, and despite the long stretch of waiting. For God is your source of provision and strength. His love will never ever fail you.
In my single season the Lord has become my source of delight. For I have come to the realisation that without Him, I have nothing. Though there are many beautiful earthly gifts that He may give us during this lifetime, I have learnt that none compares to the eternal love and security of the almighty God.
In this season of surrendering your love life to God, you may be finding it difficult to obtain happiness in moments of despair. Your heart may be so fixed on the thing that you desire so deeply, but because it’s not here yet, you may sometimes feel extreme disappointment rather than delight. But what helps in those low moments, is to keep your heart steadfast on His splendour, and all of the wonderful things He has done already. By doing this, it helps you to remember how glorious and faithful God really is. Praising Him and worshipping Him in our own ways enables us to fixate our souls upon the beautiful and unfailing love of God. It helps us to feel secure and safe in His care.
The Lord will never ever let you go. His devotion to you is everlasting. He knows what you desire, and He knows just what to do. But rest in Him today, and delight yourself in His beauty. For as you draw closer to Him, your heart’s desires will become aligned with His, and eventually, He will fulfil those desires. Wonderfully and beautifully.
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.” – Psalm 84:11
When it comes to surrender, one thing that can help us to let go and let God is to remind ourselves that our Heavenly Father does not withhold anything good from those who walk uprightly. He loves His daughters, and desires to see them blessed within the beauty of His will. He is faithful to provide our every need, and He is able to supply all things for us in order to flourish within His unique plan for our lives.
If you believe that God has pressed the desire on your heart for marriage, will you continue surrendering your love life to God, and trust that He will provide the right husband to you when the time is right? For if He hasn’t provided it yet at this present time, there is a special reason why. He understands how deeply you may want it right now, but God sees the bigger picture. He sees your beginning, middle and end. The timing of the Lord is absolutely flawless. And He knows just what to do, and when to do it for you.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33
Surrendering your love life to God is essentially placing His will above your own. When you come to a place of surrender, you are allowing God to take over, as your heart says ‘Lord not my will, but your will be done.’ In my single season of surrendering my love life to God, it is my daily prayer that He would lead me into His will as He directs my path. I submit to God, and humble myself, quieting my heart before Him. That He may have His way entirely within my life.
It is not easy. It takes daily surrender, and the help of the Holy Spirit to keep you going in strength. Do not lean on your own strength for support, because God understands that this journey can be extremely difficult and He wants to help you. Therefore, come to Him. Lean on Him, and may your soul find rest in His glorious embrace. In seeking Him first, everything else will be added to you.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
Do you trust Him? Do you trust that the Lord knows what He is doing? Do you believe that He is a gracious and loving Father who wants the best for you as His daughter? I understand there may be those times where you feel as though you are forgotten. You seem invisible, and you feel as though God is far away when you need Him most. But it is within those testing moments where you must cling onto His heart more than ever before. With His help, the scriptures can be magnified within your heart, so that no circumstance or situation can cause you to stay defeated on the ground. For the Lord is indeed, a present help in trouble. And He is faithful to stay true to the Word.
I was reading a marriage testimony once, in Elisabeth Elliot’s book called ‘The Quest For Love’. And it is about a young man at the age of 26, who prayed and prayed for years without seeing any progress. But finally, at the age of 33, the Lord had made a way for him. It turned out that the woman he married was around 12 years younger than him! Imagine if the Lord answered when he was 26. His wife was not yet an adult at that point. Therefore, testimonies like this truly help us to remember to not lean on our own understanding. Because God knows the times and seasons that He has appointed for us. It may not be the same reason as the man I just mentioned, but God’s plan for us is better than we think.
Thank you for reading.
