Why I Want To Be a Homemaker
The famous Christian writer C S Lewis once said, “Homemaking is surely in reality the most important work in the world. What do ships, railways, mines, cars, government etc exist for… except that people may be fed, warmed and safe in their own homes? The homemaker’s job is one for which all others exist.”
As I have blossomed in my relationship with the Lord, I have come to deeply appreciate homemaking. I am not married yet, but God has truly been showing me an abundance of beautiful things regarding the role of a christian homemaker. The homemaker is beautifully surrendered to God’s call on her life. She has been blessed with the ability to make an ordinary empty house, into a lovely godly home for her husband and children. And I truly believe that homemaking is a wonderful creative expression of love for the family, and also to the Lord. We are to honour the Lord with all that we have, and create a beautiful home that abounds with His peaceful presence.
As homemakers, we have been blessed with the responsibility of ensuring that our loved ones are consistently nourished with healthy, nutritional, homemade foods. We can remain prayerful over our wonderful homes and our family members. We also create a beautiful and pleasing aesthetic in our home by adorning it splendidly for the glory of God. Children need to be raised in a safe, clean, loving and peaceful environment. This is beneficial for their growth and development. Not only that, but we are also able to bless our husbands through maintaining the home with excellence. For they too would also delight in coming home after a long day at work, to a clean house and dinner prepared. As homemakers, our job is to lovingly serve our families as unto the Lord.
The reason that I desire to be a homemaker, is because I believe it is God’s call on my life. And also, I am passionate about being a mother who is very much present within the lives of my children. I desire to be a mother that’s really involved with my kids. A mother who is wholeheartedly devoted to spending time with them and nurturing their soul. I personally would feel uncomfortable hiring a nanny or taking my children to a day care every single day whilst I am always off to work. I truly respect that every woman’s life is different. My thoughts and opinions are based on my background, my upbringing and the direction that God is personally leading me. Through which I wholeheartedly believe that the Lord is able to lead every christian mother and her husband, to decide on what’s best for their family.
Another reason why I would adore being a homemaker, is because I would truly delight in serving my husband by thoroughly taking care of our home full time. For I truly desire that he may rest and enjoy his time off when he is not working. I would take deep pleasure in preparing healthy homemade meals, taking care of the laundry and the ironing etc, and running errands for the household. As my children grow older, I will be able to share with them the significance of maintaining a lovely and clean family home, as well as remaining prayerful over the home, and appreciating beautiful aesthetics, along with also understanding the importance of nourishing our loved ones with healthy, balanced diets.
I want to ensure that even when my children have grown up to become adults, including my grandchildren, that they know deeply within their hearts that no matter what happens, they will always have a home to come to. A home that is welcoming, a home that is safe, a home that is overflowing with the presence of God.
Homemaking is not a burden, it is a blessing. Though unfortunately within the last few decades, I believe that many of us have truly overlooked finding the beauty in the simple things. We have underestimated the value of the family home. The family home is a place where we dwell to seek safety, refuge and comfort. Families gather in our homes, children grow and develop within our homes, intimacy flourishes in our homes, and some of the most memorable and precious moments take place in the houses of our families. Christmases, Easters, Birthdays… we are gathered for such beautiful purposes and special moments. A home has much more impact on us than we realise. I believe it’s such an honourable role as a homemaker, to create a safe haven so beautiful, that it is radiant with the glory of God.
