How To Stop Comparing Yourself To Others (Especially Social Media)

 

They say comparison is the thief of joy.. which can be so true.  When one falls into the trap of comparison, they find themselves comparing themselves not just to one person, but the list begins to build up to the point that anyone they come across, they will compare their life to theirs. Which eventually results in lack of gratitude and low self confidence.

Do you find yourself comparing your looks to those influencers on instagram? Or how about comparing your financial status and material possessions to people you see on facebook? And also the comparison of friends getting married and you’re constantly wondering when your turn will be?

Rest assured.

God has massive plans for you! Prosperity and hope is His will for your future ( Jeremiah 29:11 ).

Lets take a look on how you can control this comparison habit that you are facing..

 

  1. Limit your use on social media
  2. Get a gratitude journal
  3. Be your best self
  4. Speak positive affirmations
  5. Mediate on God’s Word
  6. Have a deep relationship with Christ

 

1 Limit your use on social media

There are tons of people on social media, and a lot of them tend to show off many parts of their lives that seem really fun and pleasing. If you find yourself comparing your life and your appearance to theirs, take a step back and use less time on social media. I once did a 40 day social media fast and my life changed drastically! I began to feel much more contentment and gratitude and I felt healthier in general. Definitely consider less usage time!

 

2 Get a gratitude journal

A gratitude journal will help you develop consistency in counting your blessings. When you start to recognise and understand how blessed you are.. you feel so much more grateful as to where you are now. There are so many people wanting to be in your position, just as you look to others sometimes. You just aren’t aware of it. You are blessed, count your blessings! What are you grateful for?

 

3 Be your best self

Aim to be the best version of yourself as possible. What are your goals and dreams? Work towards achieving them. How would you like to start dressing? Build your dream wardrobe. What is your purpose in life? Chase it and fulfil it. Work towards being the best version of yourself that you can.

 

4 Speak positive affirmations

Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Speak life and goodness over your life and you will begin to see a shift in your life. A shift in your thinking, your attitude, and the overall results that will manifest in your life.

 

5 Mediate on God’s Word

God’s Word is the only book that is alive. It holds SO much power. Speak and declare the scriptures. Wash your mind with His Word and your mindset will begin to renew itself onto a different level.

 

6. Have a deep relationship with Christ

I speak from experience and I can tell you that I genuinely faced a lot of comparison myself. It took discipline and pursuing Christ on a deeper level to be healed. His peace and assurance is like no other..

What we have to understand is.. we are individuals. Designed and hand created by God Almighty. Our lives have been perfectly orchestrated by God. Yes there may be ups and downs but God has given us free will. A choice to decide whether we want to go our way or His way. And His way always results in the best. If you jut focus on Him, and aim to grow in gratitude and contentment, you will flourish beautifully.

A flower does not compete against the other flower next to it, it simply just blooms.

And I encourage you, just trust the process of your life and bloom.

Change will come, and goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life xx
